San Francisco police are looking into the possibility that organized crime or a gang was responsible for the dismembered remains of a man discovered inside a suitcase.
Officer Albie Esparza tells the San Francisco Chronicle in a story in Saturday's edition that the condition of the man's torso has police considering that possibility. He does not elaborate in the story.
The suitcase was found Wednesday afternoon on a street in the city's South of Market neighborhood. More body parts were found in a trash can nearby.
Police have detained a "person of interest" for questioning. They say they do not know if he committed a crime, only that video footage showed him in the area where the suitcase was discovered.
