PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --
Vice President Joe Biden rallied the House Democratic Caucus on its final day in Philadelphia on Friday.
It was also the final opportunity for the city to impress party leaders in an effort to win the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
Biden wrapped up a policy conference with the Democratic Party's Congressional leadership with a lecture and pep talks.
They lost control of the U.S. Senate, even more members of the House, using a strategy of running away from the Obama White House and its policies... even though the national economy has been dramatically improving.
"Mark my words. The Republican Party is going to try and claim this resurgence and they're going to misrepresent that it was because of, quote, policies that they supported," Biden said.
Philadelphia's political leaders have been focused on trying to bring the party's 2016 nominating convention to Philadelphia. These congressional leaders were relentlessly lobbied by Mayor Michael Nutter during their meetings in Society Hill.
"A number of members told me they had not been to Philadelphia before or they haven't been here in a while. They were really wowed by the city and a number of them said 'we're hope we're coming back here in the summer of 2016,'" Nutter said. "So, we'll see."
"It was such a positive event, and so many enjoyed walking around the city, I think it does give us a leg up," said Rep. Brendan Boyle.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, one of the party's key players, was asked if Philadelphia was in the lead, but she would give no hints.
"We were very honored by the presence of the mayor. He is always an intellectual resource to us when it comes to policy and organizing," Pelosi said.
By Friday night the Democratic power brokers had left town, still non-committal on which town will land the party's national convention in the summer of 2016.
Along with Philadelphia, Brooklyn, New York and Columbus, Ohio are in the running. A decision is expected within weeks.
