FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - Flags are at half-staff Wednesday at the State Patrol office in Fond du Lac in honor of Trevor Casper.

He's the trooper who died along with a suspected bank robber after both got into a shootout.

It ended a crime spree Tuesday that spanned 130 miles from Wausaukee in Marinette County to Fond du Lac, where the shootout took place.

Authorities said the suspect robbed the Wausaukee branch of the State Bank of Florence of an undisclosed amount of money, then stole a bank employee's pickup truck.

A short distance away, officials said the robber dumped the truck and stole a car, killing its driver who was in his 60's.

Trooper Casper reportedly saw the stolen car in Fond du Lac around 5:30 p.m., and followed it until the shootout occurred.

There was also a bank robbery in Fond du Lac, but officials were not sure at last word if it was part of the crime spree.

Casper graduated last December from the State Patrol Academy. He graduated from Kiel High School in 2011, where he was a varsity wrestler and soccer player. He was also on the school prom court during his junior year.

Officials from Congressman Glenn Grothman and Governor Scott Walker on down issued statements praising Casper, and offering their condolences to the officer's family and to the state's law enforcement community.

A Facebook page has also been made honoring Casper.

Names of the suspected robber and the carjacked motorist were not released as of late morning.
