At least 21 hurt when train hits car in Los Angeles - Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - At least 21 people were injured, two of them seriously, on Saturday when a Los Angeles commuter train struck a vehicle on the tracks near the University of Southern California campus, fire officials said.

One train passenger suffered serious injuries, the Los Angeles Fire Department said, and a person extricated from the vehicle was in critical condition.

Nineteen others suffered minor injuries, according to the fire department, which said that two train cars had derailed in the incident. The LAFD had said earlier that two vehicles were involved. It said the cause of the wreck was not immediately known.

A Reuters witness said that a silver Hyundai Sonata appeared to have been totaled in the crash and that the derailed train cars had remained upright. Images from the scene showed police and firefighters surrounding the wreckage.
