It all started when Dr. Justin Puckett, director of the Complete Family Medicine clinic in Kirksville, Missouri, and his wife received a letter a teacher sent home with their daughter Alia. It described Alia's lunch as "four chocolate bars, a bag of marshmallows, Ritz crackers, and a pickle," and requested that she "packs a proper lunch tomorrow."The letter even included a line requesting a parent's signature.
But Dr. Puckett is fighting back against the lunch letter, and is refusing to sign it — creating a problem that's more than bite-sized.
Dr. Puckett told ABC 3 that the letter failed to include the full contents of his daughter's lunch, which he says also included four pieces of ham. Puckett said Alia only ate one small piece of chocolate, and gave the other pieces away.
"I have the ultimate responsibility to raise my children and I take that role very, very seriously," Puckett said.
The Kirksville Schools Superintendent has since issued a statement apologizing for the incident and says it won't happen again.
