APA Duke University student has admitted to hanging this noose, officials said, and is no longer on campus.
A Duke University student has acknowledged hanging a noose from a campus tree and is no longer at the college, an official said Thursday.
The undergraduate student was identified by Duke University Police officers and the Office of Student Affairs, Vice President Michael Schoenfeld announced at a press conference, according to campus newspaper The Chronicle.
The student's name was not revealed. An investigation is underway to determine if others were involved and whether criminal charges are warranted.

The thin, yellow rope was discovered early Wednesday, and was cut down about 2:45 a.m., said Vice President for Student Affairs Larry Moneta in an email to students Wednesday.
"To whomever committed this hateful and stupid act, I just want to say that if your intent was to create fear, it will have the opposite effect," Moneta wrote.
The campus is still smarting from incident two weeks ago when a black female student complained classmates were chanting a racist song with an allusion to lynching.
