Police: Report of armed intruder at school apparently a hoax - Chron.com

HOLMDEL, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a report about an armed intruder at a central New Jersey school appears to have been a hoax.

Investigators remained at the Village Elementary School in Holmdel on Wednesday afternoon, but prosecutors said all staff and students had been safely evacuated and all classrooms there had been cleared,

The building was put on lockdown around 11 a.m. Tuesday after officials received a report that someone with a gun was on the roof of the school. It was evacuated a short time later, and local and county law enforcement officials performed a "cursory survey" of the building.

Authorities say students were not in danger and no injuries were reported.

It wasn't immediately known how officials learned of the purported threat.
